China Slams US Pressure in Iran War, Issues Strong Warning

China has broken its silence on the escalating Iran crisis, issuing a sharp warning against what it called a return to the “law of the jungle” amid mounting pressure from the United States. After weeks of maintaining a cautious and restrained stance, Beijing has now openly criticised Washington’s actions, signalling a noticeable shift in tone and approach.

The change came after the United States moved to impose a naval blockade targeting Iran’s oil exports. China’s Foreign Ministry condemned the step as dangerous and irresponsible, warning it could heighten tensions and disrupt global trade—particularly through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz. Beijing had earlier limited its response to broad calls for stability but now appears more direct in its messaging.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his first public remarks on the crisis, stressed that international law must not be applied selectively. While he did not explicitly name the United States, his comments were widely seen as a pointed critique. China also flagged concerns over maritime security, cautioning that such actions could further destabilise an already fragile regional situation.

The crisis carries clear economic stakes for China, which continues to import Iranian oil despite US pressure. Rising fuel costs and transport expenses are already being felt domestically. Even so, Beijing has reiterated its call for dialogue and de-escalation, indicating a preference for a negotiated solution while carefully balancing its economic interests, diplomatic positioning, and global image.
