A dramatic X video from the Philippines has gone viral after a bright green fireball appeared in the sky while Mayon Volcano was erupting. The glowing object moved across the night sky from a different direction as lava and ash activity continued near the volcano. Many viewers questioned whether it was a meteor because it appeared to plunge toward the volcanic peak.

Scientists later said the object was likely a meteor that burned up before reaching the ground. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, known as Phivolcs, clarified that the fireball did not hit Mayon Volcano and disintegrated in the atmosphere.

Mayon Volcano Still Under Watch

The rare sight happened during an active phase of Mayon’s eruption. Phivolcs reported pyroclastic density currents, locally called “uson,” along the Mi-isi and Basud gullies. The volcano also showed minor strombolian activity, which can send glowing volcanic material into the air.

Mayon Volcano, known for its near-perfect cone shape, remains under Alert Level 3. This means increased unrest continues and hazardous eruptions are still possible. Authorities have warned residents and visitors to stay away from the permanent danger zone due to risks from lava flows, ashfall, and sudden pyroclastic currents.
