Aviation Fuel Prices Rise 5% Worldwide, Marking Second Monthly Gain

May 1, 2026 | Global: Jet Fuel Prices Rise 5%, Mark Second Consecutive Monthly Increase

International prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), commonly known as jet fuel, have risen by around 5%, marking the second consecutive monthly increase. The hike reflects sustained pressure in global energy markets, with oil companies gradually passing on higher costs to international carriers.

According to state-owned oil firms, ATF prices for foreign airlines have been increased by $76.55 per kilolitre, taking the rate to about $1,511.86 per kl in Delhi, home to the country’s busiest airport. This follows a sharp price surge in April, pointing to a continuing upward trend in aviation fuel costs.

However, there has been no revision in ATF prices for domestic airlines. Authorities and oil companies have adopted a calibrated pricing approach to shield local carriers from sharp cost fluctuations, even as international fuel rates continue to climb.

Jet fuel prices in India have been deregulated for over two decades and are linked to global benchmarks. The latest increase is largely driven by rising crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have disrupted supply chains and pushed up energy costs worldwide.

While foreign airlines are paying market-linked rates, domestic carriers continue to benefit from moderated pricing. The sustained rise in jet fuel costs could impact airline operations and may eventually lead to higher airfares if the trend persists.
