Agniveers Get 2-Year Extension, Fresh Regular Service Chance

A two-year extension will take the service tenure of Agniveers not selected after their initial four years to six years. They will receive another opportunity for regular enrolment, with selection depending on performance and prescribed criteria.

Agniveers Get Two-Year Service Extension

Agniveers who are not selected for regular enrolment after their initial four-year engagement will receive an additional two years of service. The change will extend their total tenure in the armed forces to six years and provide another opportunity to be considered for regular service.

Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani announced the decision at a press conference on November 4. He said the armed forces had recommended the extension and the Cabinet had approved the proposal.

The extension covers the 75 per cent of Agniveers who would otherwise leave after four years under the original arrangement. General Subramani said feedback on the first batch had been positive as personnel approached the completion of their initial engagement.

Agniveers Get Fresh Selection Opportunity

Completing the additional two years will give eligible Agniveers another opportunity for assessment for regular enrolment. Selection will depend on performance, achievements and the applicable criteria; the extension does not guarantee a regular position.

The CDS indicated that experience gained during implementation would help shape future reviews of the Agnipath scheme. He also discussed opportunities across different branches of the armed forces.

Physical fitness, adaptability, technological understanding and the ability to handle different responsibilities will remain important parts of training and assessment. These factors will help determine how personnel perform during their extended engagement and subsequent selection process.

Agniveers Get Skills And Education Support

General Subramani said Agniveer training includes technological knowledge, moral values and practical skill development alongside physical preparation. He also highlighted opportunities to improve educational qualifications.

These pathways include progression from Class 10 to Class 12 and from Class 12 to graduation. The emphasis on education and skills is intended to support personnel in their service responsibilities and future careers.

The interaction also covered remuneration, promotions and service conditions. Figures of Rs 43,500 for the first year and Rs 47,000 for the second year were cited in the discussion on extended engagement. Detailed pay arrangements and roles will be governed by the applicable guidelines. The Seva Nidhi package will continue, with further implementation details subject to the relevant service rules.

Agniveers Get Longer Tenure As First Batch Nears Completion

Launched in June 2022, the Agnipath scheme introduced an initial four-year engagement for young recruits in the Army, Navy and Air Force. Its original provisions allowed up to 25 per cent of each batch to enter the regular cadre, subject to performance, organisational requirements and prescribed criteria.

Personnel not selected were originally due to leave after four years with a one-time Seva Nidhi package and skill certificates to support employment opportunities outside the armed forces.

According to the supplied article, the Navy’s first cohort is due to complete its initial tenure on November 21, followed by the Air Force on December 21 and the Army on December 31. More than 18,000 personnel from the first batch were expected to complete four years of service by the end of 2026.

The announced extension provides additional service time and a further selection opportunity, while keeping performance-based assessment central to regular enrolment.
