Bengaluru Rail Boost: Vande Bharat to Mangaluru, Two Mumbai Trains Coming Soon

In a significant move to enhance railway connectivity across Karnataka and neighbouring regions, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced the launch of three new train services from Bengaluru.As per the official update, a semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express connecting Bengaluru with Mangaluru is in the final planning stage. The service is also expected to be extended up to Madgaon, which will improve connectivity across coastal Karnataka and create a seamless link with Goa.
The minister confirmed that the Hassan–Mangaluru railway line has been fully electrified, and testing and trial runs are currently in progress. The Vande Bharat service is expected to be operational within the next few months, offering faster and more efficient travel across the coastal route.
Indian Railways is set to introduce two new train services between Bengaluru and Mumbai. These include a superfast Mail/Express train via Hubballi–Dharwad, featuring modern LHB coaches, and a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express designed to provide quicker and more comfortable overnight travel between the two major cities.Both services are expected to commence operations within the coming months.
The expansion plan is aimed at strengthening connectivity to important coastal destinations along the Konkan belt. Officials also highlighted the integration of advanced safety systems such as Automated Emergency Braking (AEB), which is essential for managing the steep gradients of coastal railway routes.Once operational, these new services are expected to significantly reduce travel time, enhance passenger comfort, and boost economic and tourism connections between Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra.
