PV Sindhu Supports Jeevandan Organ Donation Drive
Indian badminton icon PV Sindhu participated in an organ donation awareness programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Government and the Jeevandan Trust in Visakhapatnam on the occasion of Indian Organ Donation Day. The event was attended by Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, medical professionals and several dignitaries committed to promoting organ donation across the state. Sindhu's presence brought significant attention to the campaign, with organisers hoping her influence would encourage more families to understand the importance of organ donation and support the life-saving initiative.
Addressing the gathering, the two-time Olympic medallist emphasised that awareness programmes play a vital role in educating society about organ donation. She thanked doctors and healthcare professionals for their relentless efforts in saving lives and acknowledged the emotional strength shown by families who choose to donate the organs of their loved ones. Sindhu described organ donation as one of the greatest gifts a person can offer, saying that although such decisions are never easy, they provide hope and a new beginning to many patients waiting for transplants.

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav thanked Sindhu for joining the Jeevandan initiative and supporting the government's awareness efforts. The minister explained that the Jeevandan Trust has been working closely with the families of brain-dead patients, encouraging them to consider organ donation so that multiple lives can be saved through a single selfless decision.

Sindhu's participation in the awareness campaign came soon after another remarkable achievement in her sporting career. On July 19, she became the first Indian badminton player to win the prestigious Japan Open Super 750 title by defeating Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in straight games. The victory marked her first major title in nearly 600 days following her successful recovery from a serious foot injury.
The badminton champion has also continued to create history by becoming the first Indian shuttler to register 500 career singles victories. Her impressive achievements include two Olympic medals, the 2019 BWF World Championship title, five World Championship medals, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medal and a historic Badminton Asia Team Championships triumph with India in 2024.
