Vijay Seeks Two Weeks to Prove Majority Amid Tamil Nadu Govt Formation Deadlock Chennai | May 7, 2026: Vijay has reportedly sought two weeks from Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar to prove majority in the Assembly as uncertainty continues over government formation. The request followed his meeting with the Governor at Lok Bhavan amid intense political activity in the state. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly but remains short of the majority mark. The Indian National Congress has extended support, taking the alliance closer to the required numbers. However, the Governor has reportedly asked for documentary proof of majority before extending an invitation to form the government. According to sources, Vijay submitted a list of supporting MLAs and sought additional time to secure backing from regional parties and independents. TVK leaders have also reached out to the Communist Party of India (CPI), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) for support. The delay in inviting Vijay to form the government triggered protests by TVK cadres outside Lok Bhavan, with supporters urging the Governor to allow a floor test. Congress leaders also backed the move, stating that the majority should be proven in the Assembly.
