Siddaramaiah Alleges Conspiracy In Natarajan RS Nomination Row

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has alleged that the rejection of Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination from Madhya Pradesh was part of a political conspiracy.

The Congress leader criticised the BJP and said the decision reflected the condition of democracy under the current central government. His comments came after Natarajan’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha election was rejected during scrutiny, triggering a fresh political row between the Congress and the BJP.

Congress Questions Rejection

Siddaramaiah claimed that the rejection was not a routine scrutiny decision, but a politically motivated move to stop the Congress candidate from contesting.

He alleged that the BJP had the strength to win only two Rajya Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh but fielded a third candidate. According to him, when Congress MLAs remained united, the election process was used to reject Natarajan’s candidature.

Legal Grounds Debated

The controversy is linked to allegations over non-disclosure of a legal matter. Siddaramaiah argued that a private complaint cannot be treated as a criminal case unless a court takes cognisance of it.

He said a court notice alone should not be considered a criminal case requiring disclosure in nomination papers. The Congress has maintained that the decision was unfair and legally questionable.

Political Fight Intensifies

The BJP has rejected the Congress charge, while Congress leaders have accused the ruling party of misusing institutions to gain political advantage.

Siddaramaiah said the Congress would oppose what he called an assault on democracy and constitutional values through democratic means.

With the Rajya Sabha election row now turning into a larger political battle, the issue is expected to remain in focus in both Madhya Pradesh and national politics.
