Manickam Tagore Hits Back At Udhayanidhi Stalin As Congress-DMK Alliance Split Widens
Congress-DMK Rift Grows After Election Results
The political rift between Congress and DMK has widened in Tamil Nadu after Congress MP Manickam Tagore strongly criticised Udhayanidhi Stalin for his remarks against the national party. Udhayanidhi had accused Congress of betraying the DMK after benefiting from the alliance during the Assembly election.
Tagore called Udhayanidhi’s statement irresponsible and said Congress had supported his political growth when he became a minister and later Deputy Chief Minister. He also accused the DMK leader of being ungrateful, adding more heat to the post-election dispute between the former allies.
TVK Support Changes Tamil Nadu Politics
The row intensified after Congress extended support to actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, which emerged as the single-largest party but fell short of a majority. Congress, which had won five seats as part of the DMK-led alliance, later backed TVK and helped Vijay cross the majority mark with support from other parties.
Tagore also alleged that talks were held between DMK and AIADMK after the results, with BJP involvement, to prevent Vijay from becoming Chief Minister. DMK, however, claimed Congress won its seats only because of DMK cadre support. The clash now marks a major break in one of Tamil Nadu’s long-running political alliances.
