New Delhi, June 26: Passport applicants in India will have to pay higher fees from July 1, 2026, as the government has revised charges for fresh passports, reissues and replacement of lost or damaged passports.

Under the revised rules, a fresh or reissued ordinary 36-page passport will cost Rs 2,500, while the Tatkal fee for the same category has been increased to Rs 5,000.

Passport Fees Revised From July 1

The government has amended the Passports Rules, 1980, to bring in a new fee structure for passport-related services. The revised charges will come into effect from July 1, 2026.

At present, the fee for a fresh or reissued 36-page ordinary passport is Rs 1,500. From July 1, the normal fee will increase to Rs 2,500. For Tatkal applications in the same category, the fee will rise from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000.

New Passport Application Fees

For a 60-page ordinary passport or its reissue, the normal fee has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500. Under the Tatkal scheme, the revised fee will be Rs 6,000 instead of the current Rs 4,000.

The fee hike will affect applicants applying for fresh passports as well as those seeking reissue of existing passports.

Higher Charges For Lost Or Damaged Passports

The revised fee structure also covers replacement of lost or damaged passports.

For a 36-page passport issued in place of a lost or damaged passport, the normal fee will now be Rs 5,000, up from Rs 3,000. Under Tatkal, the fee will increase from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500.

For a 60-page passport in the lost or damaged category, the normal fee has been revised to Rs 6,000 from Rs 3,500. The Tatkal fee for the same category will now be Rs 8,500, compared to the earlier Rs 5,500.

Passport Fees For Minors

The revised rules also include separate charges for minor applicants below 18 years of age.

For a fresh or reissued 36-page passport for minors, the normal fee will be Rs 1,750, while the Tatkal fee will be Rs 4,250. For a lost or damaged 36-page passport in the minor category, the normal fee will be Rs 4,250 and the Tatkal fee will be Rs 6,750.

Passports issued to minors will be valid for five years or until the applicant turns 18, whichever comes earlier.

Discount For Young Children And Senior Citizens

The notification also provides a 10 per cent discount on passport fees for fresh applications by minors up to eight years of age and senior citizens above 60 years.

However, the discount will apply only to fresh applications and not to reissue cases.

What Applicants Should Know

Applicants planning to apply for a passport from July 1 should check the revised fee category before booking an appointment on the Passport Seva portal.

The fee revision is important for families, students, workers and travellers preparing documents for overseas education, jobs, tourism or emergency travel. Those who have already planned passport applications may need to factor in the higher cost from the effective date.
