Bengaluru, India – May 19, 2026: Authorities in Bengaluru have arrested a 34-year-old Indian-origin US citizen after live bullets and a Ruger magazine were found in his hotel room. The incident raises serious concerns about hotel safety and unauthorized ammunition importation in India.

The individual, identified as Arman Mutaahar, a US-based non-resident Indian (NRI), checked into the Jayamahal Palace Hotel in JC Nagar on April 27, 2026, presenting his US passport. He checked out the next morning, but later contacted the hotel claiming he had left behind a magazine containing live bullets.

Upon inspection, hotel staff discovered a Ruger magazine loaded with seven live rounds. Repeated attempts to reach Mutaahar were unsuccessful, prompting the hotel management to file a formal complaint with JC Nagar Police on May 6, 2026.

During police questioning, Mutaahar admitted to possessing the ammunition without proper authorization. Authorities seized the magazine, bullets, passport, mobile phone, laptop, and related documents, and filed a case under the Arms Act of India.

A Bengaluru police official stated, “We are investigating why the ammunition was brought into India and whether any customs or aviation regulations were bypassed. His travel history and purpose of carrying the ammunition are under review.”

Following his arrest, Mutaahar was presented in court on May 7 and remanded to police custody. After a subsequent hearing on May 14, he was sent to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on judicial custody.

This case highlights gaps in monitoring unauthorized ammunition import and emphasizes the importance of robust hotel safety protocols in major cities. Authorities urge hotels and travelers to adhere to legal guidelines for transporting firearms and ammunition to prevent public safety risks.
