On April 10, 2026, Shri Nandamuri Balakrishna inaugurated the ISDE India Edition 2026 conference on esophageal cancer in Hyderabad. This historic event, hosted by the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE) in collaboration with Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI), marked the first time the conference was held in India. The event also commemorated BIACH&RI’s Silver Jubilee, celebrating 25 years of dedication to cancer care, research, and treatment.
The conference brought together over 150 oncologists from around the world, including experts from Canada, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and the USA. They joined leading Indian clinicians to discuss advancements in esophageal cancer treatment, such as robotic surgeries, minimally invasive techniques, and organ preservation. The event also addressed the rising incidence of esophageal cancer in regions like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the North-East of India.

Smt Nara Brahmani, Trust Board Member of BIACH&RI, reflected on the hospital’s founding vision of providing accessible cancer care to all, while Dr. C.S. Pramesh from Tata Memorial Hospital highlighted the importance of strong leadership in the institution’s success. Balakrishna praised the collaboration between Indian and international experts, noting that India is now a key player in the global oncology field.
The conference emphasized the need for continued innovation and collaboration in cancer treatment. Distinguished guests, including Prof. Lorenzo Ferri, President of ISDE, and other international experts, highlighted the importance of shared knowledge to improve patient outcomes. As the conference continues, it reinforces India’s growing role in the fight against esophageal cancer, marking a significant step forward in global medical collaboration.
