Delhi NCR Rain Alert June 25: IMD Issues Orange Alert For Thunderstorm, Gusty Winds

Delhi-NCR is likely to witness another spell of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds on Thursday, June 25, 2026, as the India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for several parts of the national capital region.

The weather alert comes after days of humid and unsettled conditions in Delhi. The fresh rain spell is expected to bring some relief from the sultry weather, but it may also lead to traffic disruption, reduced visibility, and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

IMD Issues Orange Alert For Delhi-NCR

According to the IMD nowcast, light to moderate rainfall is likely in several parts of Delhi, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Wind speeds may reach 50–60 kmph and could gust up to around 70 kmph in some areas.

The alert covers parts of South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, North West Delhi, and North Delhi.

An Orange Alert means residents should remain prepared for fast-changing weather and take precautions while travelling.

Rain And Thunderstorms Likely In Nearby Areas

The weather system is also expected to affect parts of the wider NCR and neighbouring states. Light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are likely over parts of Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Areas such as Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sohna, and Narnaul in Haryana may see rain and lightning. In western Uttar Pradesh, places including Nandgaon and Barsana are also expected to receive similar weather.

Several parts of Rajasthan, including Alwar, Bharatpur, Deeg, and nearby districts, may also experience thunderstorms with winds of around 30–40 kmph.

Travel Disruption Possible

The IMD has warned that strong winds may uproot weak trees, damage temporary structures, and affect traffic movement in some areas. Motorists have been advised to drive carefully, especially during sudden rain spells.

Waterlogging may occur in low-lying stretches, while visibility could drop during heavy showers or dust-laden winds.

Commuters should check weather and traffic updates before stepping out, especially during evening travel hours.

Safety Advisory For Residents

Residents have been advised to avoid standing under isolated trees during thunderstorms and stay away from electric poles, loose wires, and open areas during lightning activity.

People should also secure loose outdoor objects such as boards, flower pots, and temporary covers, as strong winds may blow them away.

Those travelling by two-wheelers should be extra careful, as sudden gusts and wet roads can increase the risk of accidents.

Monsoon Advance Behind Weather Change

The fresh rain spell is linked to the gradual advance of the southwest monsoon across northern India. Increased moisture over the region is helping trigger thunderstorms and rain activity across Delhi-NCR and adjoining states.

Weather reports also indicate that Delhi-NCR may continue to see intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity over the coming days as monsoon conditions strengthen across parts of north India.

For Delhiites, the rain may bring a welcome drop in temperature, but the Orange Alert means caution remains necessary through the day.
