Overview:
Ugly Story is a Telugu thriller drama that deals with forced marriage, emotional suffering and domestic abuse. The film has a serious subject and a few good performances, but the weak narration, slow screenplay and lack of gripping twists reduce its impact.
Performances:
Nandu gives a strong performance as Karthik and gets good scope to show a darker side. Avika Gor performs sincerely as Neha and handles emotional scenes with confidence. Shivaji Raja adds some weight to the father’s role, while Ravi Teja Mahadasyam appears in a limited role. The remaining cast members do their parts decently.
Technical Aspects:
Director Pranava Swarup chooses an intense subject, but the execution feels flat. The story does not feel very fresh, and several scenes appear unrealistic. Some bold and disturbing portions may not connect with all viewers. The climax also lacks the required thrill.
Music:
Shravan Bharadwaj’s background score is one of the better aspects of the film and helps lift a few important scenes. However, the songs are weak and do not leave much impact.
Editing:
Srikanth Patnaik R’s editing could have been sharper. The narration feels slow in many portions, and tighter editing may have improved the overall viewing experience.
Positives:
- Nandu’s intense performance
- Avika Gor’s sincere acting
- Strong background score
- Serious subject
- A few emotional moments
Negatives:
- Slow narration
- Weak climax
- Limited emotional depth
- Unrealistic situations
- Songs fail to impress
Analysis:
Ugly Story starts with a serious concept and has the potential to become an emotional thriller, but the film struggles because of weak writing and flat storytelling. Nandu and Avika Gor try to hold the film with their performances, while the background score supports some scenes. However, the screenplay does not create enough suspense or emotional connection. The disturbing scenes may feel heavy, but they do not always add depth to the story. Overall, the film may work better for OTT viewing than as a strong theatrical experience.
Bottomline: Weak Impact
Rating: 2.75/5
