With October 2 falling on a Friday and coinciding with a national holiday, cinemas are set for a packed weekend as major Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Hollywood releases compete for audience attention.
Fahadh Faasil and Sandeep Kishan Lead Telugu Line-Up
The October 2 box-office race begins strongly in Telugu with Fahadh Faasil’s Dont Trouble The Trouble. The film marks Fahadh’s straight Telugu outing as a full-fledged lead actor and also introduces Sashank Yeleti as a director. The movie has generated encouraging pre-release buzz, and a positive response could open the door for Fahadh to take up more Telugu lead roles in the future. Sandeep Kishan is also entering the festive weekend with Sigma, directed by debutant Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil star Vijay. The film is expected to receive a significant release in both Telugu states and Tamil Nadu, making it one of the notable bilingual attractions of the weekend.
Nivin Pauly, Vijay Sethupathi and Shiv Rajkumar Join the Race
Tamil cinema adds further variety with Nivin Pauly’s Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, which will also arrive in Telugu as Sanchari. Directed by Ram, the film features Soori and Anjali in important roles and is expected to appeal to audiences looking for performance-driven cinema. Vijay Sethupathi returns with Baththa, a 1986 Madras-set gangster comedy-drama written and directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan. Expectations are significant around the film, especially with another Vijay Sethupathi project under Puri Jagannadh lined up next. Kannada superstar Shiv Rajkumar also enters the weekend competition with Bail, an action drama directed by Pavan Wadeyar and featuring Deekshith Shetty in a key role.
Hindi Cinema Brings Drishyam 3 and Premalu Remake
Bollywood’s major attraction is Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3. The Hindi adaptation is expected to take a slightly different route from the South Indian version, with the makers consciously introducing changes for its audience. Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj are part of the cast. Another Hindi release is the remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Premalu. Veer Pahariya plays Vishal, while debutante Aafiya Sayed appears as Suhani. The romantic entertainer is directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, known for Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai.
Hollywood Adds Digger and Verity to the Weekend
Hollywood fans also have major options this October 2. Tom Cruise arrives with Digger, described as a dark comedy, adding an international star attraction to an already crowded release calendar. Anne Hathaway’s Verity, a psychological erotic thriller, is also scheduled to reach theatres on the same day. With action dramas, gangster films, thrillers, romance and dark comedy all arriving together, the October 2 holiday weekend promises one of the busiest theatrical clashes of the season across multiple languages.
