The blockbuster success of the Gujarati film Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate has reportedly opened the door for a Telugu remake. Producer Mahavir Jain is said to be in advanced discussions for the adaptation, with Ram Charan being considered for a special appearance as Lord Krishna and Karthik Subbaraj emerging as a possible director. However, neither the cast nor the director has been officially confirmed.
Laalo’s Historic Box-Office Success
Made on a reported budget of approximately ₹50 lakh, Laalo went on to earn more than ₹122 crore worldwide. It became the first Gujarati film to cross the ₹100 crore mark, establishing a major box-office milestone for the regional industry.
The film’s extraordinary return on investment and its emotional connection with audiences have reportedly encouraged plans to adapt the story for Telugu viewers. Producer Mahavir Jain is believed to be leading discussions, although the project remains in its early development stage.
Ram Charan Considered for Lord Krishna Cameo
The biggest speculation surrounding the remake is Ram Charan’s possible appearance as Lord Krishna. Reports suggest that the actor is being considered for a special cameo rather than a full-length lead role. Despite its limited screen time, the character could have considerable importance within the story.
The Telugu version may present Lord Krishna in a contemporary and charismatic form instead of following a conventional mythological portrayal. The intention is reportedly to combine the original film’s spiritual themes with a modern narrative. Ram Charan’s participation, however, has not been confirmed by the actor or the makers.
Karthik Subbaraj May Direct the Adaptation
Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj has reportedly emerged as a potential choice to direct the Telugu remake. Known for films including Jigarthanda, Petta and Mahaan, the director could bring a distinctive visual and narrative treatment to the adaptation.
The remake is expected to retain the emotional core, themes of faith and spiritual message of the Gujarati film while making changes suitable for Telugu-speaking audiences. A larger production scale and a more contemporary presentation are also reportedly being considered. Discussions are still underway, and no final decision has been announced regarding the director, cast or production schedule.

Directed by Ankit Sakhiya, Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate was written by Sakhiya along with Krushansh Vaja and Vicky Poornima. Its cast includes Reeva Rachh, Shruhad Goswami, Karan Joshi, Mishty Kadecha, Anshu Joshi, Kinnal Nayak, Parul Rajyaguru and Jaydeep Timaniya.
The story follows a rickshaw driver who becomes trapped inside a farmhouse and is forced to confront painful memories from his past. During the experience, he begins seeing visions of Lord Krishna, setting him on a deeply personal journey involving faith, self-discovery and redemption.
The Telugu remake will move forward only after its creative team and cast are finalised. If Ram Charan and Karthik Subbaraj eventually join the project, the adaptation could become one of the most closely watched remakes of a recent regional blockbuster.
