Netflix’s first Telugu original series, Super Subbu, brings Sundeep Kishan into a humorous and heartwarming village comedy about awkward conversations, family expectations and self-discovery.
Super Subbu Brings A Fresh Telugu Comedy To Netflix
Netflix is set to premiere Super Subbu on July 2, marking its first Telugu original series on the platform. Created and directed by Mallik Ram, the series stars Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar and Murali Sharma in key roles, along with a strong supporting cast that includes Maanasa Choudhary, Get Up Srinu, Jeevan and Brahmanandam.
The story follows Subramanyam Chillukuri Rao, also known as Subbu, an innocent and sincere young man whose life changes unexpectedly when he gets posted as a sex education officer in a village called Maakipur. What begins as a short-term job soon turns into a confusing, funny and life-changing journey for him.
A Village Comedy With A Social Theme
Super Subbu uses humour to explore a topic that is often treated with hesitation in society. Instead of making the subject heavy, the series appears to present it through comedy, innocence and relatable village situations. Subbu enters Maakipur with a lesson plan and a sense of duty, but he quickly discovers that educating people is not as simple as it looks.
The village setting adds colour and charm to the story. Every question, misunderstanding and classroom moment seems to create new chaos, turning Subbu’s job into a public talking point. Through these situations, the series looks at how conversations around awareness, consent and education can become easier when handled with warmth and humour.
Sundeep Kishan Leads The Story As Subbu
Sundeep Kishan plays Subbu, a young man trying to find his place in the world while dealing with personal and professional pressure. His character is not shown as a bold reformer, but as an ordinary person placed in an extraordinary situation. That innocence is expected to become the main source of humour and emotion in the series.
Mithila Palkar and Murali Sharma add more depth to the story, while Brahmanandam’s presence is likely to bring strong comedy appeal. With actors from different generations, Super Subbu seems designed as a family-friendly comedy drama with both youthful energy and old-school humour.
Mallik Ram Promises Humour With Heart
Director Mallik Ram said the idea behind Super Subbu was to tell a story that is fun, emotional and meaningful at the same time. According to him, humour became the best way to open up conversations around topics that people usually avoid. The series also explores family dynamics, generational gaps and relationships, giving it more emotional value beyond comedy.
Netflix India’s Monika Shergill described Super Subbu as a delightful comedy with heart, rooted in the vibrant world of Maakipur. She said the series brings together a distinct local voice, relatable themes and memorable characters, making it an important addition to Netflix’s Indian original content lineup.
Super Subbu To Stream From July 2
Written by Mallik Ram, Ramesh Eligeti and Shivani Dhobal, and produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under Chilaka Productions, Super Subbu is set to stream on Netflix from July 2.
With its mix of comedy, village charm, social awareness and a talented cast, Super Subbu looks like a refreshing Telugu OTT series. The show promises laughter, emotion and a quirky world where one innocent question can become the biggest discussion in Maakipur.
