South Africa ETA: New Travel Process for Eligible Indians

South Africa ETA Brings Digital Travel Applications

South African Tourism is expanding engagement with India’s travel industry to explain South Africa’s Electronic Travel Authorisation process. The initiative aims to help travel agents guide eligible Indian visitors through the digital application system and resolve practical questions before departure.

The ETA allows eligible travellers to complete authorisation formalities online, reducing paperwork and the need for some traditional application steps. South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs operates an official portal for ETA applications.

Pune Travel Workshop Addresses Application Queries

As part of the outreach, South African Tourism held a digital ETA workshop for Pune’s travel trade on September 22, 2026, in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs.

The session brought together 65 travel partners and covered the application journey, processing timelines, applications involving children and the handling of groups. Participants could raise operational questions directly with tourism and Home Affairs representatives. The workshop was intended to improve agents’ understanding of the system so they could provide clearer information to clients planning a South Africa visit.

Indian Travel Partners Prepare To Support Visitors

Neliswa Nkani, Acting Hub Head of South African Tourism, emphasised the importance of giving travel partners the knowledge and confidence to help clients navigate the ETA process.

Travel Agencies Association of Pune President Nilesh Bhansali welcomed the direct engagement and its focus on practical industry concerns. Amol Damle, Partner at Damle Safaris, said the presentations helped participants prepare for anticipated interest in South Africa ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. The wider outreach focuses on improving destination knowledge and helping agencies address traveller questions consistently.

Traveller Guidance On Eligibility And Processing

The tourism communication highlights authorisation within 48 hours. However, this should be treated as a processing indication rather than a guaranteed approval deadline for every application. Official launch guidance also describes rapid digital processing, subject to approval.

Travellers should confirm their eligibility, applicable requirements and current instructions through the official South Africa ETA portal. Questions involving children, group travel or individual circumstances should be clarified before submitting an application. For Indian visitors, the immediate benefit of the trade outreach is better access to informed assistance while preparing the necessary travel authorisation.
