BJP Eyes Bigger Role In Punjab

The BJP has begun its Mission Punjab 2027 with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini becoming one of its most active faces in the state. The party has historically remained a smaller player in Punjab, earlier depending on its alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal. But with the Akalis weakened, AAP facing criticism over governance, and Congress battling internal issues, the BJP now sees a fresh chance to expand. Saini has been visiting Punjab regularly since 2025, attending public meetings, community events, and religious places as part of the party’s wider outreach plan.

Why Saini Matters To BJP

Nayab Singh Saini fits the BJP’s Punjab strategy because of his social and cultural connection with the state. He belongs to the Saini community, an OBC group with influence in Punjab, and his mother is a non-Jat Sikh. During Punjab visits, he is often seen wearing a saffron turban and addressing people in Punjabi. The BJP hopes to build support among OBC, Dalit, and Hindu voters while reducing dependence on traditional Jat Sikh politics. Saini has also directly attacked Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann over law and order, drugs, corruption, and governance failures. With the BJP preparing to contest all 117 Assembly seats independently, Saini’s role has become central to its Punjab 2027 election plan.
