Police Conduct During Sulur Girl Murder Case Draws Public Criticism
Press Meet Conduct Draws Criticism
The Coimbatore press meet row has sparked criticism in Tamil Nadu after reports claimed senior police officials appeared insensitive during a briefing on the Sulur girl murder case. The issue drew strong reactions from the public, with many questioning whether officials should have shown greater seriousness while addressing a crime involving a child. The controversy has also added pressure on the newly elected Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s government, as the case has already created wider anger over law and order in the state.
Sulur Case And Government Response
The criticism came after Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S Keerthana was also targeted by the BJP for her alleged conduct when reporters asked about the case. Keerthana denied the charge and said her expression was being twisted for political reasons. She clarified that her smile came only after the media interaction had ended and was not connected to the crime. According to the minister, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay ordered immediate action after the child went missing near Sulur on May 21. Police formed five special teams, examined more than 250 CCTV recordings, and arrested the accused, Karthi and Mohanraj, within 24 hours. The government has said strict legal action will be taken under the POCSO Act, while opposition leaders have demanded accountability and stronger safety measures for women and children.
