Neeraj Yadav Dies at 42; Coach Confirms News

Indian para-athlete Neeraj Yadav, who won three Asian Para Games gold medals, has died at the age of 42 in a suspected suicide. A postmortem examination was underway at a Delhi hospital on Wednesday.

Indian para-athletics head coach S Satyanarayana confirmed the news of Yadav’s death and expressed sorrow. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unconfirmed, pending further findings.

Asian Para Games Success Across Two Editions

Yadav established himself on the international stage with gold-medal performances across two Asian Para Games editions. He won the F55 javelin title in Jakarta in 2018 before adding javelin and discus gold medals at Hangzhou in 2023.

His second gold at the Hangzhou Games came in the men’s F55 javelin event, an achievement acknowledged in an official congratulatory message at the time. Those performances remain a significant part of his sporting legacy.

Para Athletics Journey From Wheelchair Tennis

Diagnosed with post-polio residual paralysis at seven, Yadav initially participated in wheelchair tennis before moving into para-athletics. He subsequently competed in seated throwing events at international competitions.

Yadav represented India in the F55 classification, which includes seated field disciplines such as javelin, discus and shot put. His transition between sports eventually took him to the Asian Para Games podium, where he secured three gold medals across his career.

Death Circumstances Await Further Clarification

The account supplied by PTI states that Yadav missed the recent Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya because of a doping suspension. However, no confirmed finding has established a connection between his sporting circumstances and his death.

The postmortem and any subsequent official statements are needed to clarify the circumstances. Speculation about a single cause should be avoided while those details remain unresolved. Yadav’s career is remembered for his international achievements and his contribution to India’s presence in seated throwing events.
