India enjoyed its most productive day of the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Mirabai Chanu, Chanambam Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi secured three weightlifting medals in Glasgow. The results lifted India to four medals overall at the end of Day 4.
Glasgow, July 27, 2026: India’s weightlifting medals at CWG 2026 Day 4 transformed the country’s campaign, with Mirabai Chanu winning a record-breaking gold and Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi adding two silver medals.
The three podium finishes helped India move to eighth place in the medal standings with one gold, two silver, and one bronze. Australia continued to lead the table, followed by England and host nation Scotland.
Mirabai Chanu Wins Third Consecutive CWG Gold
Mirabai Chanu produced the standout Indian performance of the day in the women’s 48kg weightlifting final. The 31-year-old recorded a combined lift of 190kg, comprising 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk.
Both successful lifts established new Commonwealth Games marks in the category. Her victory also gave India its first gold medal of the Glasgow Games.
The triumph completed a remarkable Commonwealth Games hat-trick for Mirabai following her gold-medal performances in 2018 and 2022. Despite missing her opening attempts in both sections, she recovered confidently and remained comfortably ahead of her closest competitors.
Rishikanta Singh Claims Men’s 60kg Silver
Chanambam Rishikanta Singh delivered India’s first medal of Day 4 by finishing second in the men’s 60kg weightlifting final.
The Manipur weightlifter lifted a combined 264kg, including 121kg in the snatch and 143kg in the clean and jerk. His snatch performance equalled the Commonwealth Games record and briefly placed him in contention for the gold medal.
Rishikanta eventually settled for silver after the clean and jerk section, but his performance provided India with early momentum before Mirabai entered the competition.
Raja Muthupandi Adds Another Silver
Raja Muthupandi completed India’s weightlifting medal rush by securing silver in the men’s 65kg final.
The Tamil Nadu athlete finished with a combined total of 286kg after lifting 126kg in the snatch and 160kg in the clean and jerk. He recovered from failed opening attempts and completed the important lifts needed to secure second place.
Malaysia’s Muhamad Aznil Bin Bidin won the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 299kg. Raja’s result gave India its third weightlifting medal on the same competition day.
Indian Boxers Reach CWG Quarterfinals
India also recorded encouraging results in boxing. Jadumani Singh defeated Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman through a unanimous 5-0 decision in the men’s 55kg round of 16.
Preeti Pawar advanced in the women’s 54kg division after the referee stopped her contest against Malawi’s Deborah Mtenje. Aditya Pratap Yadav, however, exited the men’s 65kg competition following a narrow split-decision defeat to Uganda’s Nuhu Batte.
Indian Swimming Relay Team Finishes Sixth
The Indian men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team of Srihari Nataraj, Aryan Nehra, Aneesh Gowda, and Dhakshan Shashikumar qualified for the final after finishing third in their heat.
The quartet later placed sixth in the medal race with a time of 7 minutes and 29.84 seconds. Australia won the event, while England and Wales completed the podium.
India Looks to Build on Weightlifting Success
India ended Day 4 with four medals overall. Para-powerlifter Jhandu Kumar had earlier opened the country’s account by winning bronze in the men’s heavyweight competition.
With athletics beginning and further weightlifting, boxing, and swimming events scheduled, India will look to build on the momentum created by Mirabai Chanu, Rishikanta Singh, and Raja Muthupandi during the remaining days in Glasgow.
