Pragg Beats Carlsen Twice, Matches Anand’s 19-Year Chess Feat

Praggnanandhaa Shakes Norway Chess 2026 With Stunning Carlsen Double

Indian chess star R Praggnanandhaa has delivered one of the biggest moments of Norway Chess 2026 by beating World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen twice in the same classical tournament. The Chennai Grandmaster first defeated Carlsen with white pieces on May 27 and then repeated the result with black pieces on June 3.

Pragg Matches Anand’s Feat

This stunning double has put Praggnanandhaa in an elite club with Viswanathan Anand. Reports say Anand was the last player to beat Carlsen twice in one classical event, doing it at Linares in 2007. For Indian chess fans, Pragg’s result feels bigger because it shows how strongly India’s young players are challenging the world’s best.

Carlsen Blunder Turns Game

Praggnanandhaa said the game looked close to a draw as Carlsen defended strongly under pressure. But one late mistake changed the result, giving Pragg a famous win with black pieces. The 20-year-old stayed calm after the match and said winning at this stage mattered more than just beating Carlsen.
