TMC Crisis Deepens Around Yusuf Pathan
The Trinamool Congress crisis has taken a sharper turn, with former cricketer and Berhampore MP Yusuf Pathan coming under pressure over his silence amid a growing rebellion inside the party. As rival factions battle for control, Pathan has not clearly backed either Mamata Banerjee’s loyalist camp or the rebel group accused of moving closer to the NDA.
Mahua Moitra Targets Pathan
TMC MP Mahua Moitra strongly criticised Pathan after reports claimed that several party MPs were siding with the rebel faction. She questioned his political stand and reminded him that voters had elected him with a strong mandate. Her remarks came at a time when she had publicly remained with Mamata Banerjee during one of the party’s biggest internal crises.
20 MPs Claim NDA Support
The crisis widened after senior TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that nearly 20 Lok Sabha MPs wanted to align with the BJP-led NDA. Reports said the group had written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking recognition as a separate parliamentary bloc. Rebel leaders have indicated that they may support the NDA without immediately joining the BJP.
Bigger Trouble For Mamata Banerjee
The parliamentary rebellion comes soon after a split in the TMC legislature wing, where dissident MLAs claimed enough support to challenge the party leadership. With MPs and MLAs moving in different directions, Mamata Banerjee faces a serious test of control over the party she built.
For Yusuf Pathan, the political spotlight is now unavoidable. His silence, once seen as caution, is now raising questions about loyalty, timing, and his future role in Bengal politics.
