1,000 Electric Buses Coming to APSRTC for Clean and Sustainable Public Transport in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has initiated a significant push towards environmentally responsible public transportation by directing officials to introduce at least 1,000 electric buses into the APSRTC fleet. This move is a crucial part of the government's broader vision to enhance green mobility and reduce carbon emissions in the state.
At a recent review meeting at the Secretariat, CM Naidu emphasized the need for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions in the state’s public transport system. He noted that expanding the fleet of electric buses would significantly reduce fuel costs, lower pollution levels, and improve the operational efficiency of APSRTC. This shift towards electric buses aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to make public transport more affordable, accessible, and environmentally responsible.
The introduction of electric buses is in harmony with the state's commitment to promoting green energy. Recently, the state distributed over 5,000 electric cycles in Kuppam, demonstrating its dedication to eco-friendly transportation alternatives. This new initiative will not only enhance the environmental credentials of public transport but will also help cut down the long-term operational costs for APSRTC.
The government has instructed officials to create a phased action plan for the introduction of electric buses. The phased approach will ensure smooth integration and sustainability of electric mobility within the state. In addition to reducing fuel consumption and improving air quality in urban areas, this initiative is also expected to draw central government funding and attract private sector participation in the electric mobility infrastructure.
The successful implementation of this project will position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in sustainable public transportation, setting a strong example for other states to follow. The government’s forward-thinking strategy aims to boost cleaner, greener, and more efficient mobility solutions across the state in the coming years.
