FAIMA Moves Supreme Court Seeking NTA Reforms After NEET-UG 2026 Cancellation
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has approached the Supreme Court seeking major reforms in the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA) following the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 over alleged paper leak concerns.
The petition urged the Centre to either replace or restructure the NTA, which conducts several national-level entrance examinations across the country. The plea was filed a day after NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled amid allegations of question paper leaks and examination irregularities. More than 22 lakh students had appeared for the medical entrance examination conducted on May 3.
The matter is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while the NTA has already announced that a re-examination will be conducted for candidates affected by the cancellation.
The petition, filed through advocate Tanvi Dubey, requested the Supreme Court to monitor the re-conduct of the examination through a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. The plea also proposed including cybersecurity experts and forensic specialists to supervise the process and help prevent future leaks or irregularities.
FAIMA further demanded stronger digital security systems for national-level examinations, including digital locking of question papers and a gradual shift towards computer-based testing to reduce risks linked to physical paper transportation.
Another major demand in the petition was for the CBI to submit a status report before the court within four weeks detailing the progress of the investigation, arrests made, and the suspected leak network. The plea also sought the release of centre-wise NEET-UG 2026 results to improve transparency and identify unusual score patterns.
FAIMA, a national body representing doctors and medical professionals across India, stated that there is an urgent need for a more secure, transparent, and technology-driven examination system for NEET and other competitive entrance exams conducted nationwide.
