A powerful explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Thrissur has claimed the lives of six workers and left several others injured. The incident occurred in Mundathikode, where preparations were underway for the upcoming Thrissur Pooram.

According to officials, the blast took place in the afternoon, sending thick smoke into the air and causing panic among nearby residents. At the time of the incident, dozens of workers were reportedly present inside the facility, which is believed to have stored a large quantity of explosive materials used for fireworks.

Several injured individuals were rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital in Thrissur for treatment, with some reported to be in critical condition. Emergency services responded quickly, and rescue operations are ongoing at the site.

Authorities have cordoned off the area due to the risk of further explosions, especially after reports of a secondary blast during rescue efforts. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined, and an investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the explosion.
