Padma Shri Awardee Says Allotted Plot Is Still Out Of Reach
Hyderabad, June 23, 2026: Padma Shri awardee and renowned Kinnera folk artist Darshanam Mogilaiah has sought government intervention after alleging that a 600-square-yard residential plot allotted to him in Telangana remains inaccessible due to a court dispute.
Mogilaiah, who is widely known for keeping the rare Kinnera folk music tradition alive, approached District Collector C. Narayana Reddy during the Prajavani grievance programme and requested urgent help to secure possession of the land.
According to the veteran artist, the plot is located at Kuntloor village in Abdullapurmet mandal. He said the land was allotted during the previous BRS government’s tenure in recognition of his contribution to Telangana’s art and culture.
Artist Says Legal Dispute Delayed Patta And Possession
Mogilaiah said the Government Order related to the land allotment was later handed over to him by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, giving him hope that the long-pending matter would finally be resolved.
However, the Padma Shri recipient alleged that the land is currently caught in litigation. Because of this, he said he has not been able to obtain a clear patta or take possession of the property.
The artist claimed that what was meant to be a recognition of his service to folk art has instead turned into a long struggle involving government offices, courts, and repeated follow-ups.
Nearly Rs 9 Lakh Spent On Legal Expenses
Mogilaiah said he has spent nearly Rs 9 lakh on legal expenses and lawyer fees while trying to resolve the land issue. He claimed that he had to borrow money to continue the legal process.
The veteran folk artist said the plot was expected to provide financial security for his family. He added that he hopes to divide the property among his four children once the legal dispute is settled and possession is given.
Repeated Visits To Revenue Offices
Mogilaiah said he has visited the Ibrahimpatnam RDO office and Abdullapurmet revenue authorities several times, but the issue has remained unresolved.
He also expressed disappointment that despite changes in the district administration over the past two years, there has been no final solution to his grievance.
The artist alleged that officials have not given the matter the seriousness it deserves, despite his status as a national award recipient and his contribution to Telangana’s cultural identity.
KTR Assures Support, Mogilaiah May Approach CM
Recently, Mogilaiah met BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao and explained his situation. KTR reportedly assured him that he would take up the matter with the district authorities.
Mogilaiah has now said that if the issue is not resolved soon, he will personally approach Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and seek justice.
An official response from the district administration on Mogilaiah’s complaint is awaited.
The issue has drawn attention as Mogilaiah, a respected folk artist and Padma Shri awardee, continues to seek possession of land that he says was allotted to him in recognition of his contribution to traditional music and culture.
