Tamil Nadu Five Shows Cinema Rule Explained
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has changed cinema screening rules, allowing theatres to run five shows a day for new Tamil film releases.
New Rule For Tamil Theatres
Tamil Nadu theatres can now screen five shows per day for the first seven days of a newly released Tamil film without taking separate government approval. The order was signed on May 25, 2026, after producers, exhibitors, and theatre owners requested relief from the old four-show system. The rule will also apply on weekends, public holidays, and local festival days.
Earlier, theatres needed special permission to add a fifth show, especially during big releases. This often created last-minute pressure for producers and cinema owners. The new Tamil Nadu five-show cinema rule is expected to help films use their crucial opening week better and improve box office collections.
Early Morning Shows Ban Remains
However, the order does not bring back 4 am or 5 am fan shows. Tamil Nadu continues to regulate early morning screenings after earlier safety concerns, fan clashes, and crowd-related incidents during major star releases.
For Kollywood, the five-show rule is a practical boost. It gives theatres more flexibility while keeping public safety restrictions in place. The demand to restore early morning shows may continue, but for now, the biggest change is the extra approved show during the first week.
