NEET UG 2026 Controversy Renews Scrutiny Over NTA Exam Failures

NEET UG Row Revives Questions Over NTA’s Repeated Examination Controversies

The latest controversy surrounding the NEET UG 2026 examination has once again placed the National Testing Agency (NTA) under intense scrutiny after allegations surfaced that several questions from a circulated “guess paper” closely matched the actual exam paper. The issue has reignited nationwide concerns over the transparency and credibility of India’s largest entrance examination system.

According to reports, investigations in Rajasthan’s Sikar district led to multiple arrests after authorities suspected the existence of a larger organised paper leak network. Officials claimed that nearly 135 questions from a circulated paper matched the actual NEET UG 2026 exam conducted on May 3. Several people have been detained so far as investigators continue probing the alleged leak, leaving nearly 22 lakh students uncertain about their academic future.

The National Testing Agency was established in 2017 under the Ministry of Education to conduct major entrance examinations such as NEET-UG, JEE Main, CUET, and UGC NET with improved transparency and efficiency. However, the agency has repeatedly faced criticism over allegations of paper leaks, technical glitches, disputed answer keys, poor exam centre management and exam cancellations in recent years.

Several controversies linked to NTA examinations have drawn public attention over time. JEE Main 2021 witnessed allegations of impersonation and paper leaks, while CUET UG 2022 faced server crashes, delayed schedules, and repeated cancellations at multiple centres. NEET UG 2024 also sparked nationwide outrage over alleged paper leaks and grace marks, and the UGC NET June 2024 examination was cancelled following concerns related to exam integrity.

Education experts have now raised concerns over the increasing burden on a single agency conducting multiple high-stakes examinations across the country. Many believe the scale of these exams creates administrative and cybersecurity vulnerabilities, especially when tests are conducted simultaneously across thousands of centres nationwide. Experts have also called for stronger transparency measures, independent audits, and improved security systems to restore public confidence.

The latest NEET UG controversy has once again revived discussions about reforms in India’s entrance examination system. Suggestions, including decentralised examination models, AI-based monitoring systems, and stricter anti-malpractice mechanisms, are being debated as investigations continue into the alleged leak. With uncertainty continuing around NEET UG 2026, attention remains focused on whether the NTA can rebuild trust among students, parents and educational institutions in the years ahead.
