Kerala Election Update: BJP Gains Ground with 3 Wins in Thiruvananthapuram

Kerala Results 2026: BJP Breakthrough with 3 Wins in Capital

The Kerala Assembly Election Results 2026 have delivered a notable breakthrough for the Bharatiya Janata Party, which secured three Assembly seats in the Thiruvananthapuram region.

Despite the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) sweeping the state, the BJP managed to make gains by winning Nemom, Kazhakkoottam, and Chathannoor constituencies. These victories mark an important step forward for the party in a state where it has traditionally struggled to expand its presence.

Senior BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar emerged victorious from Nemom, defeating CPI(M) leader V Sivankutty by a margin of 3,590 votes. The result is significant as Nemom has long been considered one of the BJP’s strongest bases in Kerala. In Kazhakkoottam, V. Muraleedharan secured a win, further strengthening the party’s foothold in the capital region. Meanwhile, BJP candidate B. B. Gopakumar clinched victory in Chathannoor after a closely contested race.

While the overall mandate in Kerala favoured the UDF, the BJP’s performance in these constituencies highlights a gradual expansion of its support base. The results indicate that the party is gaining traction in select pockets, particularly in urban and semi-urban regions. The outcome of the election underscores a shifting political dynamic in Kerala, where even limited gains by the BJP are seen as significant in the broader electoral landscape.
