Rajinikanth Meets MK Stalin After DMK’s Poll Setback in Tamil Nadu
Superstar Rajinikanth met DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin at his Chennai residence following the party’s major defeat in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The meeting quickly drew attention after photos of the two leaders together went viral on social media.
According to reports, Rajinikanth visited Stalin to personally express his support during a challenging phase for the DMK. The meeting came soon after the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) registered a significant victory, reshaping the political landscape of the state.
The DMK secured 59 seats in the Assembly elections, while TVK won 108 seats in its debut campaign. Stalin is also reported to have faced defeat in his constituency, adding to the party’s setback. Political observers say the DMK alliance is now likely to take on the role of the Opposition in the new Assembly.
Rajinikanth’s visit has sparked widespread discussion, given his long-standing association with Tamil Nadu politics and his past support for the DMK alliance. Although he announced his political entry in 2017, he later stepped away from active politics in 2021, citing health concerns.
Following TVK’s victory, Rajinikanth had also congratulated actor-politician Vijay on social media. The Chennai meeting between Rajinikanth and Stalin has since become one of the most talked-about developments in the state, blending both political and entertainment interests in the aftermath of the election results.
