PM Modi urged citizens to work from home where possible, use public transport, reduce fuel and edible oil consumption, avoid unnecessary foreign travel and postpone non-essential gold purchases.

India imports nearly 90% of its crude oil needs, making the country vulnerable to rising global energy prices and supply disruptions. The appeals come as crude prices remain volatile, markets react nervously to the West Asia conflict, and concerns grow over inflation and pressure on the rupee. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reviewed India’s preparedness and said the government is closely monitoring supplies of petroleum products, fertilisers and essential goods. Officials say India currently has adequate strategic reserves of crude oil, LPG and natural gas, and there is no immediate shortage.
