Pen Movies, Sri Neeladri Productions and RV Studios have joined forces with director Ramesh Varma for Mahaveer Karna, an ambitious hybrid live-action epic based on the legendary Mahabharata warrior. Presented by Jayantilal Gada, the film is scheduled for a grand Pan-India release on December 4, 2026.

Ramesh Varma Takes on His Most Ambitious Project

Known for commercial entertainers such as Rakshasudu and Khiladi, director Ramesh Varma is stepping into a completely different creative space with Mahaveer Karna. The film is being mounted as an epic hybrid live-action production, combining real performances with advanced visual effects and large-scale cinematic world-building. Backed by Pen Movies, Sri Neeladri Productions and RV Studios, the project aims to present the story of Karna with both emotional depth and visual spectacle, while exploring a format that is still relatively uncommon in mainstream Indian cinema.

Karna’s Honour and Loyalty Form the Emotional Core

Rather than treating Karna merely as a mythological warrior, the film places his inner conflict, loyalty and unshakable commitment to his word at the centre of the narrative. Born to Kunti but raised away from royal recognition, Karna’s life is marked by rejection, questions of identity and the burden of destiny. Despite these struggles, he remains fiercely loyal to the people and principles he chooses. His generosity, friendship and refusal to break a promise even when it leads him toward tragedy make him one of the most complex figures in the Mahabharata, and these qualities form the emotional foundation of the film.

Hybrid Live-Action Format Promises a New Visual Experience

The teaser reportedly highlights not only kingdoms, warriors, weapons and epic-scale imagery, but also Karna’s determination to stand by his promises. The makers appear to be positioning Mahaveer Karna as more than a conventional mythological spectacle, focusing instead on themes of honour, betrayal, friendship, destiny and sacrifice. The film brings together an experienced creative team, with Ramji Dott serving as Hybrid Creator and Director of Photography, Prawin Pudi handling editing, Shreemani writing the dialogues and Gyaani composing the music. Presented by Jayantilal Gada, Mahaveer Karna is being developed as one of Ramesh Varma’s most ambitious ventures to date. With its large-scale presentation, mythological foundation and experimental visual format, the film aims to introduce Karna’s story to a new generation of audiences.
