The makers of Korean Kanakaraju took the film’s promotional campaign to Anantapur for the launch of the energetic folk number Raasa Gummadi. Mega Prince Varun Tej attended the event with director Merlapaka Gandhi and producer Rajeev Reddy. Instead of holding the launch in a major film-industry centre, the team chose Anantapur because the region provides the film with its setting, language and cultural identity.

The song launch also marked the beginning of the movie’s outdoor promotional campaign. Varun Tej said Anantapur deserved to host the event because the city and its surroundings gave life to the story. The actor described the occasion as special and expressed his happiness at meeting local audiences in the same region where much of the film was conceived and shot.

Merlapaka Gandhi Explains the Rayalaseema Backdrop

Director Merlapaka Gandhi said the story is set in and around Anantapur, making it important for the team to film in authentic locations. Hailing from Tirupati, he added that Rayalaseema has always remained close to his heart. According to the director, Varun Tej was equally determined to shoot the movie in the region rather than recreate its environment elsewhere.

Gandhi praised the actor for embracing local customs and mastering the Anantapur dialect. He said Raasa Gummadi offers only an early glimpse of Varun Tej’s transformation, while the film’s dialogue delivery and action sequences will reveal more. The director also highlighted the comedy between Varun Tej and Satya, along with Ritika Nayak’s screen presence, as key attractions.

Anantapur’s Korea Connection Adds to the Story

The director also pointed to an unusual link between the movie’s title and its setting. Anantapur district houses a major Kia automobile manufacturing plant, giving the region a visible connection with South Korea. Gandhi said this detail fits naturally into the film and contributes to the Korea-related element suggested by the title Korean Kanakaraju.

The makers have not revealed the entire plot, but their comments suggest that the film combines local Rayalaseema flavour with comedy, action and a distinctive Korean connection. By using real locations and the regional dialect, the team is attempting to create a setting that feels authentic rather than decorative.

Varun Tej Channels Chiranjeevi’s Energy

Varun Tej said he approached the Raasa Gummadi dance number with the spirit of his beloved Pedda Nanna, Megastar Chiranjeevi. He wanted to bring a similar sense of enthusiasm and infectious energy to the folk performance. The actor said he would have enjoyed performing on stage with fans at the launch, but his leg injury is still healing.

Despite the injury, Varun Tej’s appearance at the Anantapur event underlined the importance of the region to the film’s campaign. With its folk music, local dialect, comedy and action, Korean Kanakaraju is being promoted as a rooted entertainer shaped by the culture and character of Rayalaseema.
