Daayra begins in the aftermath of a serious crime that captures national attention and triggers widespread public outrage. As pressure for immediate answers grows, parallel investigations begin to uncover new details that repeatedly change the direction of the case.

Kareena Kapoor Khan plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj Sukumaran appears as DCP Raman Kumar. Both officers work within the same legal system but follow different interpretations of duty and justice. Their conflicting approaches place them on opposite sides of an investigation that gradually challenges accepted ideas of right and wrong.

Kareena and Prithviraj Lead a Strong Ensemble

Kareena has described Ajooni Kohli as a character who pushed her into a largely unexplored emotional space. Prithviraj, meanwhile, was drawn to Raman Kumar’s controlled personality and the moral questions hidden beneath his composed exterior. Their contrasting performances form the central conflict of the film.

The supporting cast includes Jitendra Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Kanwaljeet Singh, Sandeep Kulkarni and Trupti Khamkar. Their characters add further perspectives to a narrative shaped by difficult decisions, institutional pressure and the consequences of choosing one version of justice over another.

Meghna Gulzar Returns With a Layered Crime Drama

Written by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal and Meghna Gulzar, Daayra continues the director’s interest in morally complex stories. Gulzar has positioned the film in the grey space between law, personal belief and justice, allowing audiences to form their own interpretation of the events.

The film is produced by Junglee Pictures and Dr. Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios. It marks Junglee Pictures’ third collaboration with Meghna Gulzar after Talvar and Raazi, as well as its first co-production with Pen Studios. Distributed by Pen Marudhar, Daayra is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 18, 2026.
