Euphoria : New Telugu Movie Review

Euphoria : New Telugu Movie Review

Plot

Euphoria revolves around a disturbing incident where a group of entitled young boys assault a girl, triggering irreversible consequences. The narrative examines the emotional, psychological, and moral impact of the crime on the victim, her family, and the perpetrators, while questioning justice, punishment, and accountability—especially when minors are involved.

Overview

Directed by Gunasekhar, Euphoria sets out to be a socially relevant drama but struggles to translate its strong premise into an engaging cinematic experience. The film suffers from outdated writing, weak emotional build-up, and uneven execution, with only the final moments offering some redemption.

Performances

Sara Arjun delivers a passable performance, showing restraint and sincerity. Bhoomika Chawla fails to leave an impact as the mother figure, while other experienced actors also disappoint. Vignesh Gavireddy shows some promise, particularly during the climax, but overall performances remain underwhelming.

Technical Aspects

Cinematography by Praveen K Porhan is one of the film’s few strengths, capturing Hyderabad with visual appeal. However, the film is let down by weak technical support, with editing and music failing to enhance the narrative or emotional weight.

Music

Kaala Bhairava’s EDM and trance-style background score feels disconnected from the film’s serious tone. The songs neither elevate the drama nor contribute meaningfully to the storytelling.

Editing

Editing by Prawin Pudi is a major drawback, with several unnecessary and elongated sequences affecting pacing. A tighter, more focused second half could have significantly improved the film’s watchability.

Positives

  • Effective drama in the climax
  • Strong cinematography showcasing Hyderabad

Negatives

  • Outdated and clichéd writing
  • Weak direction and execution
  • Poor performances across most characters
  • Lip-sync issues, even with Telugu actors
  • Dragged scenes and unnecessary subplots

Analysis

While Euphoria attempts to tackle an important and sensitive social issue, it fails to provide depth or emotional resonance. The film’s commentary on juvenile crime and accountability lacks conviction due to poor storytelling choices, weak performances, and flawed pacing, resulting in a missed opportunity for meaningful social cinema.

Bottomline : Misfired Commentary

Rating : 2.5/5
