Ahead of its October 16 theatrical release, Ranabaali is introducing audiences to its historical setting through a four-part YouTube documentary series, Never Forget The Truth. The first episode, The Famine We Forgot, premiered on September 28.
A Famine at the Heart of the Story
The opening episode examines the famine of 1876–78, a devastating chapter of Indian history that shapes the film’s setting. It explains why director Rahul Sankrityan and his team chose this period for a story of survival and resistance. The documentary also explores the research behind the screenplay, giving viewers a sense of how historical material informed the film’s fictional drama. That context helps establish the human stakes of Ranabaali before audiences meet its characters in cinemas.
Recreating a 19th-Century World
The Famine We Forgot also takes viewers behind the scenes. Its footage highlights the locations, sets, costumes and production design used to create the film’s period setting. These details show the scale of the work involved in bringing the story to the screen, while offering an early look at the world the characters will inhabit. The documentary connects that visual work to the historical research that guided the production.
Three More Chapters to Come
The series continues on YouTube with The History We Forgot on September 30 and The Men We Forgot on October 2. The fourth and final episode, The Last Load, has been announced, but its release date has yet to be confirmed. Together, the chapters are designed to explore the history connected to Ranabaali and share more of the filmmaking process before the movie opens.
