Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is reportedly preparing for an early OTT premiere on ZEE5 after a steep decline in theatrical collections and show count, although official confirmation remains pending.
Toxic Reportedly Heading to ZEE5 on September 25
Yash’s much-discussed Kannada film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups could arrive on streaming platforms within weeks of its theatrical debut. According to a report by 123Telugu, the Geetu Mohandas directorial is expected to premiere on ZEE5 on September 25. However, neither the filmmakers nor the streaming platform has officially confirmed the date or digital partnership. Until a formal announcement is issued, the reported release date and platform should be treated as provisional.
Sharp Drop Follows Strong Opening Week
The reported early digital release follows a dramatic fall in the film’s theatrical earnings. Toxic collected an impressive Rs 239.30 crore during its opening week, benefiting from strong anticipation surrounding Yash’s return to the big screen after the blockbuster success of the KGF films. However, its second-week collection reportedly dropped to Rs 8.94 crore, representing a decline of more than 95 per cent compared with its first week. The sharp fall indicates that the film struggled to maintain its initial momentum despite beginning its run with significant audience interest.
Theatrical Show Count Falls by Over 99 Per Cent
The contraction in box-office collections was also reflected in the number of screenings across India. Toxic reportedly opened with 24,579 shows nationwide on its first day. By Day 21, that figure had fallen to only 248 shows, marking a decline of more than 99 per cent from the opening-day count. If the proposed September 25 streaming date is confirmed, the film will reach OTT less than a month after its theatrical release. Such a quick transition would be considerably shorter than the conventional cinema-to-streaming window generally followed by major star-led productions.
Yash Plays Dual Roles in Geetu Mohandas’ Crime Drama
Set in a bygone-era Goa, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups explores the world of a powerful drug cartel operating beneath the state’s glamorous exterior. Yash plays Raya, a gangster drawn into organised crime, while Nayanthara portrays his sister. The actor also appears in a second role as Ticket, Raya’s son, adding another layer to the film’s narrative. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the project arrived in theatres with considerable expectations because it marked Yash’s major return following the KGF franchise. For now, audiences interested in watching the film online must wait for an official statement from ZEE5 or the producers confirming its streaming platform and premiere date.
