Exploring the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards: New Beginnings and Criticism

The Telangana Gaddar Film Awards (TGFA), instituted in 2025 by the Government of Telangana, recognize excellence in Telugu cinema post the state's formation in 2014. Named after the renowned Telugu poet and balladeer Gaddar, the awards replace the Nandi Awards previously presented by the Andhra Pradesh government. Managed by the Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC), winners are selected by an independent jury that reviews and analyzes submitted films. However, the awards have faced criticism, particularly regarding the naming of the award, the selection process, and the inclusion of a propaganda film in its inaugural edition.
