Aab’o-Hawaa: An Evening with Gulzar brings together poetry, music and conversation centred on nature and the environment. The presentation explores Gulzar’s reflections on rivers, forests, mountains, rain, clouds, the earth, the sky and the changing relationship between people and their surroundings.

Known for his distinctive imagery and expressive language, Gulzar has written extensively in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi during a career spanning more than five decades. His environmental poems often capture powerful images and thoughts in just a few words, drawing inspiration from trees, wells, landscapes and scenic places such as Kullu, Manali, Chamba and Thimphu.

Curated and presented by writer and director Salim Arif, the programme will feature a conversation with Gulzar about nature, poetry and environmental decline. Selected poems will be set to music by Sandesh Shandilya and performed by singers Vibhawari Apte Joshi and Hrishikesh Ranade. The programme will also include some of Gulzar’s popular songs.

The evening will conclude with Gulzar reciting selected poems, highlighting the urgent need to protect nature and the environment. The presentation is supported by Axis Bank.
