Cuba 6.1 Earthquake Sends Tremors Across Region

A powerful magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off Cuba’s northwest coast, shaking parts of the Caribbean, Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, and the southeastern United States. The quake was reported near western Cuba and was strong enough to make buildings sway in several areas.

No Major Damage Reported

Authorities said there were no immediate reports of deaths, injuries or major structural damage. However, precautionary evacuations were carried out in some places after residents felt strong tremors. In Cuba, officials continued checks in affected areas as concerns remained over older buildings and strained infrastructure.

Tremors Felt In Florida And Mexico

The shaking was also felt in parts of Florida, including Miami and nearby areas, where some offices were briefly evacuated. Mexico’s tourist regions, including Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, also reported tremors.

No Tsunami Warning Issued

Officials confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued after the quake. Experts said aftershocks may be felt near western Cuba, but any later tremors are expected to be weaker.
